Subject: Mountain, Temples and even a few boogies!

Hello all!

Hope you are all well!
Today is exactly 3 weeks since I left London and slowly I am feeling more and more like I am travelling! Especially today where I came back from a 3-day trip to the mountain Emei Shan, near Chengdu in the Sichuan province!

Smelly Mendez came back after 2 days of walking stairs up and down the mountain with occasional cheeky monkeys pinching her water bottle. (you should have seen these monkeys Justice!!!) The whole thing included a luxurious night (best room I've had so far) in a small village at the base of the mountain and one not so luxurious in a Buddhist Temple up the mountain, overwatched by Buddha himself!! ;) The point of the trek is to catch some beautiful scenery (lush mountains coupled with famous southern Chinese mist) and see some temples (if you're not templed out!).
Unfortunately, the weather could have been better (was more of a complete wall of clouds :( but we still saw some great stuff. I say we, cos I have been hanging around with 3 guys from Israel form the last 3/4 days! I seem to meet a lot of people wherever I go so out of the 3 weeks I think I've truly been on my own only for 4, if that! There are some interesting people out there and then some not so interesting! :))

We've now come back to Chengdu, the next trip could well be on horses! ;) In fact I already feel like Beijing was ages ago! I went through Zenhgzou (To see the Shaolin Temple and its Kung-fu masters but that was disappointing. They present themselves more as a circus act which totally undermines their abilities, which are amazing!:(

Then Xi'an, which was great, they have a brilliant Muslim district there that has a lot of character and atmosphere. On my way from there to Chengdu I Met an American guy who introduced me to the 3 Israeli guys when we got to the guesthouse. Turns out they were on the same train but in the hard seat carriages.

Well, Was it you Jon E. who said that no matter where I go in the world I'll always find somewhere to go clubbing? You don't know how right you were ;) A few days ago we all went to - apparently - the 'best Disco in China' called MGM \!! It was excellent and the go go dancers were male and very fit! How could I complain! ;)) Second club I sample in china! I'm fated to go dancing! ;)

Right now my legs are on the wobbly side and we're off for a hotpot in a bit which is meant to be very very spicy!!!! The further south I go the spicier the food gets!

Ok, I can't finish this email without saying GO GO GO EN-G-L-AND!!!! :)) I totally caught the Denmark match by chance a few days back and thought so much of how happy all you (UK) people must have been! You all know how little I care about football and yet I was dead pleased and was cheering on!!!! I reckon I could hear some of you from here! We won't talk about thejoy of seeing the French being out though!!!! ;)

Well I'm trying to keep up with the Diary cos I'm definitely slipping on the emails!!!!

All take care! Thanks for the emails!
Speak soon!
